Day-wise Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Madurai, Thirupparankundram and Pazhamudircholai
Arrive in Madurai and meet our representative. After freshening up, begin the pilgrimage with Thirupparankundram, the first of the six abodes, located on the outskirts of the city.
In the afternoon, proceed to Pazhamudircholai, set on a hill north of Madurai and surrounded by forest. In the evening, visit the Meenakshi Amman Temple in the heart of Madurai.

Day 2 – Thiruchendur
After an early breakfast, travel to Thiruchendur, about 220 km from Madurai, on the shore of the Bay of Bengal. The drive takes around four hours.
Take darshan at the Thiruchendur Murugan Temple, one of the few major temples in Tamil Nadu built right beside the sea. Devotees usually bathe at the Nazhi Kinaru before entering.
Return towards Madurai in the evening after darshan and rest.

Day 3 – Palani and onward to Kumbakonam
After breakfast, check out and travel to Palani, about 120 km from Madurai. The temple is on a hill, and devotees can climb the steps or use the winch or rope car, which operate subject to availability and timings.
After darshan and lunch, continue towards Kumbakonam, about 230 km, arriving in the evening. Check in and rest for the night.

Day 4 – Swamimalai and onward to Thiruthani
After breakfast, visit the Swamimalai Murugan Temple near Kumbakonam, where Murugan is worshipped as the teacher of his own father.
If time permits, a short stop can be made at other temples in the Kumbakonam area. After lunch, travel towards Thiruthani, about 250 km, and check in for the night.

After darshan, proceed to Chennai, about 85 km, for your onward journey. Your Arupadai Veedu pilgrimage concludes with Franklin Destinations.

Temple Timings and Darshan
Temples follow their own opening hours and close for a few hours in the afternoon. The itinerary is planned around these timings, but they can change during festivals, special poojas and temple events.

Dress Code and Temple Customs
Tamil Nadu temples follow a traditional dress code. Men usually wear a dhoti or veshti with the upper body uncovered inside the sanctum area, and women wear a saree, half saree or salwar kameez.
Footwear is removed outside the temple, and leather items are not carried inside. Comfortable footwear is useful for the walk from the parking area, which can be long at some temples.
Please carry a small towel, drinking water and any personal medication, especially for the hill temples at Palani, Pazhamudircholai and Thiruthani.
Travelling with Senior Citizens
Many pilgrims travel with elders, and the itinerary is planned with that in mind: shorter walking distances where possible, rest stops on every travel day and unhurried darshan timings.

Best Time for This Pilgrimage
This pilgrimage can be undertaken throughout the year. October to March is the most comfortable period for travel, with pleasant weather across the route.
Many devotees plan the journey around Thai Poosam, Panguni Uthiram, Vaikasi Visakam, Skanda Sashti and Krithigai days. These are the most auspicious times, and also the most crowded, so accommodation and travel must be booked well in advance.
April to June is hot, and darshan is usually planned for early mornings and evenings. Share your preferred dates and we will plan the timings accordingly.
